The objective of the nursing degree is forming general nurses with a scientific and human preparation that capacitates them to value, identify, act and evaluate the needs of health and cares of healthy or sick people, of families and of the community.

Therefore, the function of the nurse is to deliver cares, evaluating the responses before health experiences  to detect their needs and to assist in the conducting of those activities that contribute to their health or their restablishment or to a dignified death.

Within the health system environment, the nurse shares with other professionals planification, organisation, direction and evaluation functions in order to ensure an adecuate health system for the developing of potentialities of the people, health promotion, disease prevention and cures of sick or incapacitated people.

Studies in the nursing degree are aimed at future graduates:

  1. Acquire extensive knowledge of the nursing science, health, human and social sciences, give answer to health needs and expectations of the people, families, groups and community.
  2. Develop skills for the application of protocols and procedures of nursing cares.
  3. Develop the capacity of establishing positive relations with people assigned to their care.
  4. Develop the capacity of acting based on ethical principles, respecting individual rights and values, to maintain in any given situation the dignity of the people.
  5. Use critical thinking, reflexive practice and scientific methodology in their interventions and acts.
  6. Acquire the necessary skills to make their work and research known by carrying out pre-vocational practices, in the form of an independent clinical rotational and with a final competency assessment, in health centres, hospitals and other care centres. The aim is to incorporate professional values, communication skills in healthcare, clinical reasoning, clinical management and critical judgment, while paying attention to the most prevalent health problems in the areas of Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry and other clinical areas, enabling knowledge to be integrated into professional practice, Nursing skills and attitudes, based on principles and values, associated to the competences described in the general objectives and in the subjects that conform the degree.

Moreover, they will conduct the presentation and defense before the university court of an end-of-degree project, consisting of an exercise of integration of the formative contents received and competences acquired.

OBJECTIVES / MINISTERIAL GUIDELINES

The training via acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes, will ensure that by the end of their training period the student will be able to:

  1. In the field of nursing, of delivering a technical and professional sanitary care correponding to the health needs of the people served, according to the state of develop of scientific knowledge of each moment and with the quality and security levels established to the applicable legal and deonthological standards.
  2. Plan and deliver nursing cares directed to the people, family or groups. oriented to the results in health evaluating its impact, through guides of clinical and assistential practice that describe the processes by which a health problem is diagnosed, treated or cared.
  3. Know and apply the fundaments and theoretical and methodologycal principles of nursing.
  4. Understand the interactive behaviour of the person depending on their genre, group or community, within their social and multicultural context.
  5. Design cure systems directed to people, family or groups, evaluating their impact and establishing the necessary modifications.
  6. Base nursing interventions on scientific evidence and available media.
  7. Understand people without prejudices, considerating their physical aspects, psycological and social, as autonomous and independent individuals, warranting respect to their opinions, beliefs and values, ensuring the right to intimacy through confidentiality and professional secrecy.
  8. Promote and respect the right to participation, information, autonomy and informed consent in the decision-making of the persons served, accoding to the way they live their health - illness process.
  9. Promote healthy lifestyles and self-care, supporting the maintenance of preventive and therapeutic behaviors.
  10. Protect the health and well-being of the individuals, families or groups served, ensuring their safety.
  11. Establishing effective communication with patients, families, social groups and peers and foster health education.
  12. Know the ethical and deonthological code of Spanish nursing, understanding the ethical implications of health in a global context of transformation.
  13. Know the principles of sanitary and sociosanitary financing, and correctly employ the available resources.
  14. Establishing evaluation mechanisms, considering the scientific, technical and quality aspects.
  15. Work with the professional team as basic unit in which the professionals and other personnel of the assistance organizations are structured in a single or multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary way.
  16. Know the sanitary information systems.
  17. Conducting nursing cares based on comprehensive healthcare, which implies multiprofessional cooperation, integration of the procedures and assistential continuity.
